Why Be Catholic?
10 Answers to a Very Important Question

By Patrick Madrid

In this intriguing tour of the Catholic Church’s stunning history and traditions, Patrick Madrid draws upon his own experiences growing up Catholic in 1960s & 1970s California to his life’s work as an author, theology professor, and radio host, offering an insightful, deeply personal, scripturally based testament to Catholicism.

Why Be Catholic? celebrates the 2,000-year history of the Catholic Church and explores the foundations of its most notable—and sometimes controversial—teachings. His frank, fascinating, and often humorous narrative dispels misconceptions about the Holy Eucharist, tells the true story of his miracle encounter with the Blessed Virgin Mary, and pays homage to the profound (and sometimes colorful) history of the papacy.

Examining the Catholic Church’s seven sacraments, many martyrs, and countless charities, Madrid offers more than just a guide for happiness and better living, in Why Be Catholic? he makes a compelling case for why everyone should be Catholic — including you.

Looking for the article you were reading from on your radio show yesterday (June 3) approximately 9:15

It is great! and I would like to read it in entirety and share it with others

    Keep up the Good Work!!

As a follow-up to Patrick’s speech on “WHY BE CATHOLIC” (broadcast on IMRadio 5/20/16) I ask the following questions:

In his book and speech, why does Patrick emphasize as proof of the Catholic church’s authenticity and its decendence from Jesus Christ Himself using the statements that the Roman Catholic Church was the ONLY church around in the 1800s and in the 1500s? He mistakenly labels Jehovah Witnesses, Mormans, Protestants, and other “DENOMINATIONS” AS CHURCHES. This is where Patrick goes off the deep end and loses the argument.

To use Patrick’s logic, I therefore submit:
In the Book of Acts in the Bible written by God, do we see ANY reference to the ROSARY? NO NO AND NO.
In the 4 gospels written by Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, do we see ANY reference to the ROSARY? NO AGAIN.
Did Jesus Himself admonish us to pray the rosary? NO NO NO NO NO.

Not so. In fact, nothing you allege here is true of what I said.

I did NOT say the Catholic Church was the only Church in existence in the the 1800s. I said exactly the opposite. Nor are JWs, Mormons, etc. “denominations.” They are non-Christian organizations that also claim to be the truest expressions of authentic Christianity.

And your attempt at an argument falls flat by using a non sequitur. I.e., the Bible does not claim to be sufficient, it does not say or imply that any doctrine must be proved solely from Scripture. All your “NO NO NOs” don’t prove anything one way or another about the points I made in my CD or in the book by the same title. Sorry, #fail.
